a = -2
b = 4
c = -3

They are the coefficients to the terms in the equation

Remember the quadratic equation is in the genreal form of ax^2 + bx + c = 0.  So a, b, and c, are the respective coefficients.  In your problem the a is -2, b is 4, and c is -3.
