The formula for the area of an isosceles triangle is A = bh/2.
This is the information that we know.
b = 4
h = x + 3
A = 10
Now using the information above, fill in the formula.
10 = 4 * (x+3) / 2
Using the distributive property, multiply x+3 by 4.
10 = 4x + 12 / 2
Now divide 4x + 12 by 2.
10=4x + 12
/2 /2
10= 2x +6
Subtract 6 to both sides.
10 = 2x + 6
-6 -6
4 = 2x
Divide both sides by 2 to isolate x.
4 = 2x
/2 /2
2 = x
x is 2
I hope this helps!
