We start by factoring.

Notice that you can factor out a 2 from each term. Rewrite the equivalent expression [tex]x^2+6x+9=0[/tex].

Now, using the ac-method, you will see that there are two numbers whose product is 9 and whose sum is 6. The solutions are both 3.

We write 

[tex](x+3)(x+3)=0 \\ \\ (x+3)^2=0[/tex]

By the zero product property, we set [tex]x+3[/tex] equal to zero to get the solution [tex]x=-3[/tex].
