The price of 2 pears and 6 apples is $14. The price of 3 pears and 9 apples is $21. Can you determine the unit prices for pears and apples?

Let x= pears and y= apples
[tex]2x + 6y = 14 \: \: \: equation \: 1 \: \\ 3x + 9y = 21 \: equation \: 2\ \: \: \: [/tex]
Simplify the equation by dividing by two and three
[tex]x + 3y = 7 \\ x + 3 = 7[/tex]
