In addition to interfering with topoisomerase enzyme II that is responsible for condensing of chromatin, Doxorubicin being a DNA intercalator, as a mechanism of cancer treatment, they consequently inhibit DNMT1, the methyltransferase enzyme. When DNMT1 is interfered with and consequently methylation of DNA, the genetic material becomes unstable and transcription becomes asymmetrical, Apoptosis of the cell is therefore induced.
