can someone help me with this:
Once kinetic energy is used to break a bond can we ever get that kinetic energy back? Or does it disappear forever?

It does NOT disappear. Energy cannot be gained or destroyed, according to the Law of the Conservation of Energy. So, yes, we do get that energy back.
