Negative transcriptional regulation involves the binding of the repressor protein to the operator in order to prevent a gene from been expressed. Transcription in eukaryotic cells is controlled by proteins which bind to specific regulatory sequences and modulate the activity of the enzyme concerned. Regulation of transcription can be negative or positive.
