In general, of course, the president's nominees are confirmed. According
to the Congressional Research Service, the Senate has only rejected 36
nominations to the court out of a total of 160 since 1789. That total
includes Obama's nominees — Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Justice Elena
Kagan, who were both confirmed.
