Who does negative number times negative number equal a positive number?

The negative sign is really used to indicate if you are adding or subtracting a value. If you subtract a number that is already negative, then you just end up going the opposite direction which is positive. I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense, you can message me if you need a better explanation.
