How did the north and south differ in their ideas about extending slavery?

The north's economy was based predominantly on manufacturing,shipping, and other factory businesses. 

In the south, however, most of the economy was agricultural, requiring many farmworkers.

The north wanted to end slavery while the south wanted to keep because there were many farms and the slaves held more value in the south
