Because he's Poseidon's spoiled son who no one likes.

And Polyphemus was the most ferocious of all the Cyclops living on the island, spoiled son of Poseidon, who nobody likes. Odysseus first deceived him when he said his name was "Someone", and Polyphemus told the Cyclops: "I was offended by an evil "someone"
