v² - 2v = 3
v² - 2v - 3 = 0
v = -(-2) +/- √((-2²) - 4(1)(-3))
                    2(1)
v = 2 +/- √(4 + 12)
                2
v = 2 +/- √16
           2
v = 2 +/- 4
           2
v = 2 + 4    v = 2 - 4
         2                2
v = 6          v = -2
      2                 2
v = 3          v = -1
