In order to determine the mass of a given volume, it is important to know the density of the substance. Density is a physical property of a substance that represents the mass of that substance per unit volume. For water, we can assume 1000 g/ L. Therefore, the mass is 1000 g/L ( 2.00 L ) = 2000 g.
