2y-(y+6) (-2y)= -3y +1 (-2y) [Subtract both sides by 2y]

(-(y+6))/-1 = (-5y + 1)/-1 [Divide both sides by -1]

y + 6 (-y+1) = 5y - 1 (-y+1) [Subtract both sides by y and add 1 on both sides]

7(/4) = 4y(/4) [Divide both sides by 4]

y = 7/4

(Double check the work)

2(7/4) - ((7/4)+6) = -3(7/4) + 1

3.5 - 7.75 = -5.25 + 1

-4.25 = -4.25 (correct)
