Combine like terms. What is a simpler form of the expression? Please help im stuck

-3(-4y + 3) + 7y

the answer is 
-3(-4y + 3) + 7y= 12y-9 +7y, 
the like terms are 12y and 7y
so 
-3(-4y + 3) + 7y= 12y +7y-9 = 19y -9
