Why was england shocked by the boston tea party?

England was our only source and we as American came over to a new land for freedom and to be an independent nation. The tea being dumped was a sign that we do not need their taxed and we do not need their resources just handed to us with a massive amount of money needed to be paid. England was shocked that they could no longer control Americans.
