Advantages: Military expansion drove economic development, bringing enslaved people and loot back to Rome. Also, Rome gained more glory from surrounding nations.

Disadvantages: Rome no longer had enough food to provide for its people and was forced to import grain from other places. Poor farmers were forced to sell their land to wealthy landowners.
