Aside from the heat and visible light that the sun gives off, the sun also shines UV (ultraviolet rays) although the ozone blocks out most of the UV rays, pollution weakens the ozone shield which can result in harm to living things such as humans, animals, plants, and other wildlife. It can even effect the top layers of the oceans.
