an independent variable is one that is changed or controlled. a dependent variable is the one being tested and measured. an example of this would be seeing how much water a plant grows best with. the amount of water you use is the independent variable while the plants affected by the water is dependent. a good way to remember this is that the dependent variable is DEPENDENT on the independent variable
