to find the speed after 5 seconds you use the following formula:

[tex]a=\frac{v-v_o}{t}[/tex]

but vo = 0m/s because the skier is at rest at the beginning.

You do v the subject of the formula:

[tex]v=at=(1\frac{m}{s^2})(5s)=5\frac{m}{s}[/tex]

hence, the velocity is 5m/s
