You can turn them into improper fractions:

2 5/6 = [tex] \dfrac{17}{6} [/tex]

8 4/7 = [tex] \dfrac{60}{7} [/tex]

Multiply them:   170/7 = 24 [tex] \dfrac{2}{7} [/tex]
