A linear system, glad that I'm here.

5x - y = 12

3x + y = 4

We can just add equations to eliminate y,

8x = 16

x = 2

y = 4 - 3x = 4 - 3(2) = -2

Answer: x=2, y=-2

Check:

5(2) - (-2) = 10 + 2 = 12 good

3(2) + (-2) = 6 - 2 = 4 good
