Iron Curtain refers to the political, military, and ideological blockade raised by the Soviet Union and its eastern and central European allies after World War II in order to avoid any contact with the West and other noncommunist states. This division was the heart of Cold War.

The term Iron Curtain came to be internationally known only after it was used by Winston Churchill in his speech at Fulton, Missouri, U.S., on March 5, 1946.
