Given two points [tex] A = (A_x, A_y),\ B = (B_x,B_y) [/tex], the slope of the line passing through the two points is

[tex] m = \dfrac{A_y-B_y}{A_x-B_x} [/tex]

So, in your case, you have

[tex] m = \dfrac{3-5}{-2-4} = \dfrac{-2}{-6} = \dfrac{1}{3} [/tex]
