x = [tex]\frac{45}{13}[/tex]

multiply all terms on both sides of the equation by the lowest common multiple of 3 and 8, that is 24

24 × [tex]\frac{2x}{3}[/tex] = 24 × [tex]\frac{(x - 1)}{8}[/tex] + 2 × 24

16x = 3(x - 1) + 48

16x = 3x - 3 + 48

16x = 3x + 45

subtract 3x from both sides

16x - 3x = 45

13x = 45

divide both sides by 13

x = [tex]\frac{45}{13}[/tex]
