Using the Pythagorean theorem:


20^2 = 8^2 + X^2

400 = 64 + X^2

X^2 = 400 - 64

X^2 = 336

X= √336

X = 18.3

use pythagoras theorem

20^2 = 8^2 + x^2      where x = length of th other leg

x^2 = 20^2 - 8^2 =  336

x = sqrt 336

= 18.3  to nearest tenth
